Job Tracker Lite
๐ Job Tracker Lite โ v1.0.0
Job Tracker Lite is a personal job application management tool built with NestJS, primarily to strengthen my backend development skills through hands-on practice and to manage my own job search journey more efficiently. I started this project with two main goals: to learn NestJS by building a practical application and to create a tool that I can personally use to organize and track my job applications.
๐ฏ 1. Project Motivation
As a developer preparing for professional opportunities, managing multiple job applications can become confusing without a proper tracking system. I wanted to build something useful for my own career journey while learning how to structure a backend application, design APIs, handle authentication, and work with a database. Rather than building a project solely by following tutorials, I chose a practical idea that allows me to apply new concepts while solving a real problem.
โจ 2. Key Features
๐ Authentication with Better Auth to support user authentication and protected API access.
๐ Workspace Management to organize job applications into separate workspaces.
๐ Job Application Management to create, view, update, and delete application records.
๐ Application Status Tracking to track applications through Applied, Interview, Rejected, and Selected statuses.
๐ฏ Priority Management to categorize opportunities as High, Medium, or Low priority.
๐ฐ Salary Information to store minimum and maximum salary expectations.
๐ผ Job Details to manage company names, positions, locations, job types, and other relevant information.
๐ก๏ธ Duplicate Prevention to check for duplicate applications based on selected job details.
๐ฆ Workspace Archiving to archive workspaces that are no longer actively needed.
๐ ๏ธ 3. Technology Stack
NestJS, TypeScript, Better Auth, MongoDB, Mongoose, Docker, and Bun.
๐ 4. What I'm Learning
This project is helping me move beyond basic CRUD operations and understand how a structured backend application works. During development, I am practicing NestJS modules, controllers, services, dependency injection, DTOs, validation, exception handling, response interceptors, REST API design, authentication, session management, MongoDB data modeling, workspace-based data organization, and Docker containerization.
My main focus is understanding why these concepts are needed, how they work together, and how to apply them when building a practical backend application.
๐ฎ 5. Future Development
Version 1.0.0 represents the initial foundation of Job Tracker Lite, focusing on essential job application management features and the core backend architecture. I plan to continue improving the project as my backend knowledge grows and my personal job-search requirements evolve.
Potential future improvements include an analytics dashboard, application statistics, advanced search and filtering, interview scheduling, follow-up reminders, resume and document management, and further improvements to API architecture, security, and deployment. These enhancements are part of my future roadmap and will be introduced gradually in upcoming versions.
๐ก 6. Project Vision
Job Tracker Lite is more than a learning project for me. It is a tool I intend to use in my own job search while continuously improving my backend development skills. By building, testing, and refining the application over time, I aim to gain practical experience with NestJS and develop a better understanding of backend application architecture.
